A. D. Sutton (ADS), a privately held corporation, was incorporated in the state of New York in 1947. Now controlled by the third generation of Suttons, ADS has been known throughout its existence as a financially strong and stable corporation. In the 1950s, ADS was one of the first companies to begin importing handbags, soft-sided luggage, and tote bags. During the 1970s, ADS originated the concept of the fashion diaper bag and established the Baby Bag Division.

In the 1980s, ADS started importing diaper bags and backpacks. ADS remains one of the industry leaders of backpacks, sport bags and travel bags in the country. In 1990s, the Baby division diversified and began making gift sets, bibs, and even hanging layette.

Today, ADS has large market share in a wide array of baby products, including diaper bags, bibs, soft and hard gift items and hanging layette. The two newest categories are socks and crib shoes.
